Hi Christopher - die chips as pointed out by our fellow enthusiasts. You'll find that there are certain dates/decades prone to have overworked tools. The 50's are notorious for running the dies until they catastrophically failed. Although they may distract some collectors from buying/hanging onto them, there are a number of folks that enjoy the uniqueness of the look, especially if they occur in an interesting spot like the BIE cents (many of these are from the 50's). I occasionally see a dented car/tailgate that catches light or reflection differently, and while not authentic to the designer's intent, they end up being interesting (to me anyway). Find what you like...and keep it!
Christopher, what did the math teacher say to the vampire student? “Can’t you Count, Dracula?” I just felt like I had to get that in because of your cool avatar.
