I just found this slabbed 1921 Peace Dollar for sale and it's graded by NASC. When I Google NASC it comes up with Numismatic Association of Southern California but on the slabbed coin it says Numismatic Authentication Service Company. I've never heard of either one of them. Anybody out there ever heard of these guys and whether or not they're legit? NASC obv.jpg NASC rev.jpg

I haven't heard of them. Do you have one of those bar code reader things on your phone?

Surface of that coin looks polished. May be the photos, but I suspect a cleaning. Reverse looks circulated.

They were legitimate in their own minds. Funny how they spend more space advertising themselves on the slab than putting more useful highlighted info.

This is one of the self slabbers (someone putting their inventory into generic holders and adding a grade). They aren’t respected and almost always overgrade and/or use problem coins.

Edit: if I recall correctly, this particular slab can also easily be opened (it’s not sealed)

    But there's a "bean" on it, that should validate...oh, wait a minute...nevermind. :D

Graded to "CSI" Standards? "Certified Silver Investments" is not a standard recognized but their own standards which mean nothing. Slabbing under one name and grading under another, both of which are their own invented names.

    I recognize them.
    They are junk.
BTW, the CSI style slabs are actually not sealed - it's a friction fit.

If you have patience you can tap them on the edge and open it up. I've seen it done, never had the patience. There is also a tiny hole on the edge that you can use with a pin to open them.

CSI was another grading service long ago and they are the ones that produced and marketed those shells to other basement slabbing services.
