I could use a little assistance. The Souvenir Card Collectors Society is working on catalog numbers for some BEP products. Specifically, coin/currency sets that contain Bureau engravings (besides the currency itself). Here are the ones I know of: 2001 The American Buffalo set (coin & BEP currency reprint) 2004 Lewis and Clark Coinage and Currency Set (coin & BEP currency reprint) 2005 The Chief Justice John Marshall Coin and Chronicles Set (coins and BEP Marshall statue vignette) 2006 Benjamin Franklin Coin and Chronicles Set (coin and BEP "Signing of the Declaration" vignette) 2016 Ronald Reagan Coin and Chronicles Set (coins and BEP Reagan presidential portrait) 2018 100 Year Anniversary of WWI set ($2 bills and BEP currency reprint) 2019 Apollo 50th Anniversary set ($50 bill and BEP astronaut vignettes) Can anyone think of any others?
The BEP 2020 edition of the American Founding Fathers Currency set is scheduled for sale on February 13th 2020. https://catalog.usmint.gov/americas-founding-fathers-2020-currency-set-B15057.html
It doesn't look like that one includes any special engraving, apart from the currency. Unless there's something on the folder itself that's not obvious. Btw, we think there's going to be a coin or currency set later this year commemorating the 400th anniversary of the landing of the Mayflower. The design will probably include elements from the special intaglio print that was released by raffle at the FUN show.
I would like to see more intaglio (souvenir cards) that include historic currency without the word COPY printed in red on the design.
Is there a law that requires that, I wonder? Other than that, it makes no sense. If they did more currency/print sets like the Apollo 11 set I wouldn't mind that.
It's not a law, more like CYA. The story I've heard is that about 10 years back a Secret Service lawyer told them they could no longer use *any* currency designs in their intaglio print program. Once the lawyer retired they returned to using currency, but to remove all doubt about the reprints they added COPY to the design. It does act as a successful deterrent to dealers cutting up the cards and slabbing them, but it ruins the eye appeal. All we can do is keep hammering away at the BEP with ongoing complaints and hope they eventually remove it.
Idk why, but ever since I started ordering from the Mint my deliveries take over a week. Tracking shows expected delivery is Saturday. :/
Mine said Saturday at first, then Thursday, now it says today :-s. What I don't like is that we have to pay shipping now where we didn't when the BEP was doing it separately from the mint. At least we have tracking now.
After 3 orders, you get free shipping. This works out for because me I place about 3-4 orders per year
