I got this AV Tremissis in 2015. It was unpublished. Can anyone tell me which Visigoth King struck this. It was mintedin name of Marcian 450-57AD. Also need mint.....
I am in process of making detailed data labels.

After looking thru acsearch and Coin Archives I believe the
Visigoth king at the time was Theoderic II but it is not clear
if he struck the coins. The two mints that were mentioned
    were Ravenna and Tolouse.

Thanks Tibor, that narrows down the ruler:) Seems that even Adams collection had no tremissis (Marcian) attributed to Visigoths/ Seuvi/ Alemanni/ Burgundians. Nothing in Grierson Vol. 1 either.

Just a question, (forgive the ignorance). If it is unpublished, what links this coins to the Visigoths? Many other civilizations struck imitations of Roman gold during this timeframe.

The auction house Lanz quoted it as Westgoten AV Tremissis/ unikum.

I have looked up many reference books, never found a single coin attributed to Marcian. However, maybe another example will turn up one day. I have seen Seuvi/ Visigothic coins in name of Val. III/ Severus III/ Theodosius II.....no Marcian. For time being, it feels kinda special to have a "unique" coin.:) It could well be that a unknown Germanic splinter group struck this coin, from a original Marcian tremissis, well after his reign was over.....maybe we will never know for sure/

Imitations of Roman gold coins were struck as far away as India - personally, I am in the boat that if the findspot provenance for this piece has been lost, we really can't attribute it without matching examples.
