Photos on Ebay look so clear, as if the coin were in your face. My Digt Camera makes them Blurry if I'm close, and too small if I back off. My scanner reflects too much light on bright coins, and still blurry on dark toned coins. So those of you who post those gorgeous pics on ebay....How do you do it? Also, one thread here mentioned using Microsoft Paint to resize photo file. I have been able to load the pic in paint, but not figured out how to resize. Any thoughts?
First you need to use a camera with Macro capability. If you don't have that it will be very difficult to get the photos you want.
You can also buy close-up kits for some cameras that allow them to take close-up photos. You should ask at your local camera store if a kit is available for your camera.
First off, most all cameras made in the last 5 years have macro capability. Just look for the flower. Secondly, scanners can be made to work very well. Just try searching and you will find lots of threads about photography/scanning coins. Just a for instance:
hya:Thanks Hobo. I stuck my loupe over the lense and got a pretty good shot, but now my dialup won't let me show you.
Wow! It worked! I went through all my Franklin Quarters and listed them and tried to grade them ,having no experience except the red book. I know when one is better than another, but not where they set on the scale of AG3 to PF 65. It would help me to know where you would place this one.
I don't collect Franklin Halves so I am not very familiar with their particulars but this coin appears to be circulated. I would grade it a high EF.
Hey Tight Wad, Good picture considering the difficulty with using a loupe in front of a camera lense. I sure haven't had any luck with that. Checking my "Photograde" book the obverse of the coin is somewhere in the VF range, but the book takes the reverse into consideration also. If about half the horizontal bell lines show, then the VF-20 range could be the grade of this circulated Franklin. I think Franklins are one of our better coin designs. jeankay
