looks cleaned to me, whizzed. But its in a PCGS holder and its not labeled, so.. I guess not.
I dont care for the toning much on that one, too blotchy..

Unfortunatly, they appear to be on the coin to me, but I may very well be wrong. But that's my opinion. :( Beautiful coin though. :thumb:

Looks like they're on the coin to me, too. But it is really hard to tell things like that from a photo.

I would guess that they are on the coin BUT it looks to me like they are from the die. Unless I am missing something (very possible with my monitor) those lines do not cross the high points on the coin. If they were post mint scratches, they would be the deepest on the high points.

If you look on the left side of the coin and then onto the coin holder, you can see one of the scratches carries on beyond the coin. If this is true, it may be that the scratches are on the holder and not on the coin. Did you ask the seller?

I have emailed them before I checked this forum, I'll let you know what they say. They have a high rating. I've noticed the spotty tone. Not saying AT but just wonder how this thing toned, what causes the spots?

It looks like it had some dark natural toning ,that might have been covered with the lighter AT . the colored toning seems to go over the coin as others stated , usually there's a difference in color as it tones naturaly over and in between the high and low points , the colored toning seems to just lay there on top . I don't like this coin at all. The toning is dark and the colors and pattern are very suspect. Additionally, the overall grade is at the bottom of the collectible range for a common date Peace Dollar. I know that you are looking for a nicely toned Peace Dollar and probably don't want to pay the prices on Island's Website, but I think you will be disappointed with this coin.

I have purchased coins from this seller before and although I don't think he is a bad seller, he definitely has AT coins in his inventory and his photo's do not always accurately represent the appearance of the coin. Below is a photo of one of my purchases. The left photo is his and the right photo is mine. The coin looks like my photo.

As far as the apparent scratches on the left field of the obverse. I definitely think they are on the coin, but also believe they were caused by the die and don't affect the grade much. Here is a photo of a Jefferson Nickel that I own with similar lines in the right obverse field. The coin is graded MS67

This coin looks like a good deal, an affordable rainbow toned Peace Dollar. However, I don't think they really exist. Any attractively rainbow toned Peace Dollar will not be affordable, they will all be expensive, and rightly so. My guess is that this coin is probably not even as nice as the photos suggest, and IMO they make it look ugly. My advice is to pass and wait for a more eye appealing example with a little bit higher price tag. I think you can get a nicely toned Peace MS64 for $250.

Iam not really crazy about this coin. The toning is spotty and the the reverse IMO is ugly. The coin looks almost stained on the reverse.

The peace dollar appears to have quite a few hairlines on it, I'd bet they are not from the die. The reason they show so readily IMO is because of the angle the guy used to capture the color.

Much your Frankie Lehigh. That is mint set toning on that Frankie, and it you tilt it just right when taking a pic that red will show in your pics too. I used to own quite a few of those when I still collected Mint Sets.

That said, I am always skeptical of this sellers pics and am reasonably certain that Peace dollar when viewed in hand will appear quite dark. It will only show that color when tilted at just the right angle.

I agree that both the Peace Dollar and my Frankie have iridescent toning that show at specific angles, but I promise you that there is no angle at which my Frankie looks like the seller's photo. Trust me, I have tried to find it. Maybe If I look through a glass of juice, I will find the color.

I'll have to do some searching to find it, IF I can find it, but I have a pic of a very similar coin. Taken straight on it looks like your pic, taken from the right angle and it looks like the seller's pic. The resemblance is uncanny.

And I just realized something - that may be the same coin. I sold it years ago.

I haven't expressed my opinion of the coin yet, cause I didn't want to sway any comments. At first I thought cool coin, but when I started to look at the pics the hairlines and the spotty tone are red flags. The tone looks odd to me. I don't know if it is AT, but something about the coin, just doesn't look right to me. I just can't put my fingure on what makes the red flag go up other than the over all appearance. The spotty tone almost mimics corrosion. I have no intent on bidding and am still searching to find the right toned peace dollar. Lehigh96 let me know if you come across one.

Thanks but no thanks. I sold it in an original '58 Mint Set.

    Tater,

I need to know how much you are willing to spend. If you don't want to divulge that information on the open forum, feel free to PM me and we can continue the search together in a much more clandestine manner. DLRC has a great toned 1928-S in auction, but it will be almost $2K

I see you may be the my connection to toned coins. This could be scary.

I would be perfectly happy to assume that role for anyone on the forum unless they were looking for a rainbow toned Jefferson at which point they become by competitor. All the rainbow Jeffs are mine, and don't even think about trying to outbid me.:pencil:
