I made five bids. Hopefully I was successful in all of them.

P.S. Oops. Should have read FSR auction, I inserted a typo in the title!!!

I did, and managed to get a win at what I consider a surprisingly good price. Looking forward to seeing the coin, which I will post once it's in hand. Might've gone a little over budget for the month, but I figured I deserved to celebrate my new job...

I bid on several coins and lost out on all of them :( You all have much deeper pockets than me.

I bid on one, but it went 3x my bid when I checked in with Frank last week.

I won one coin (out of three bid on). Had to increase my initial bid on the winning coin (on Frank's advice), but it worked out for me.

I won two and picked one more from the unsold list after I discovered that I had been outbid on four others on which I was leading on the weekend. Anyone admit to buying the big Gordian with a nuclear bid? The two I won were reduced a total of $73 from my top bid showing as usual that I have no taste in coins according to most people.

I think I won 5, just clicked on the list of high bids and the price realized. It got a bit hectic as 8pm Pacific time approached and I had to submit one more bid at 7:58 pm but luckily I won that one. My determination in this auction was not to lose, although on one of the coins I had to bid well over 4x my first bid. Photos and details once the coins arrive.

I bid on 8 coins and won these four (obviously, these are Frank's photos):

    Antiochos VIII tetradrachm.jpg

    Augustus denarius (Caius & Lucius).jpg

Nero AR Denarius - IVPPITER CVSTOS.jpg
    Maximus AR denarius, PIETA AVG.jpg

This was the first coin auction I've bid in since a couple of Spink and Bonhams British historical medals auctions back in 1999. Generally, I buy coins at Vcoins or other websites.

Can anyone please tell me where I would look for a catalog reference for the first coin, the Antiochos VIII tet? It's not an area I'm familiar with.

Whether it is Frank or anyone else, there is a benefit to learning to read his photos and knowing if the problems you see in the coin are on the coin or a result of the photography.

In case DonnaML or anyone else has not heard, some of us are superstitious about showing off coins we won before they arrive. In 2016, I failed to receive coins from three different dealers. One switched coins, one claimed they mailed it and one admitted he sold the coin at a show after I had paid for it but before he checked his website. I stopped posting what I considered reason for someone of questionable virtue to decide if I bought it, someone else would pay more. Most losses are due to the post office but it does not matter if the coin does not arrive.

Believe me, I understand that kind of superstition -- which I would simply call being cautious. And it did occur to me not to count my chickens, etc. But in this case, and given everything I've read about this dealer, I'm willing to take the risk! Of course, I'm eager to find out what the coins look like in person. I do appreciate Frank's disclosure of the issues each coin has.

I didn't win any, but sold one to him that was in this auction. Anyone here win #147?

Thank you! I had guessed by looking at Wildwinds that it was the coin listed as Hoover HGC 1200, SNG Israel 2554-2555, Newell 405, but there are a number of very similar coins depicted, so I wasn't sure.

Unsolds are listed at the end of his prices realized list. There were eight in this sale but he has not updated the list so the one I bought is still there. The others may be gone, too. Every so often, FSR coins strike me as not worth the start price but that is rare. I recall one Thasos stater that failed to sell in two consecutive auctions which did not tempt me at all. This time there are several some higher dollar remainders. Some were, perhaps, a bit expensive but better than average for the type (and too good for me). A couple that were rare but not perfect. Dealers suffer from having coins that are impossible to find perfect in every way and customers who think bargains have to be under $20.

I didn't have time to put any bids together this time. :( Although looking at the prices realized I doubt I would have won anything. Here are some I had my eye on - did anybody here snag one of these?

[SA's note: at first glance this looks pre-Kushan Yuezhi/Dahae to me. Or maybe a fake?]

Someone got a good deal on the two AE1s/majorinas because I didn't bid. You're welcome. :D

That tet is a beaut, congrats!! Looks like you've got the ID all sorted out thanks to David, but I would recommend Seleucid Coins Online in future.
