The reverse "shield". My 11 old grandson and I are just starting collecting and found this coin. Can you help us determine if it is production error/ is it a good one?

Welcome to CT! No, what you have here is a damaged coin. PMD, post mint damage.

Thanks for response, would't there be a color difference if it is PMD? The color is all the same on this coin.

I don't think that is damage. Looks like something struck through on the Cent.
    Interesting.

There was some debris in the Reverse Die when the Blank was struck.

Not necessarily, if it doesn’t break though the copper layer it would be the same color.

I disagree. Looks like a Struck Through issue.

You may be right. A good picture, aligned right from straight above would help. What do you think it could have been stuck through?

Good question. Scrap metal, Plastic or anything that could of gotten into the Blank Planchet bin before heading to the moment of the strike. could of been several more if the debris stuck to the Reverse die long enough.

I agree with @paddyman98. Looks like it was struck through something. That was a good chunk of whatever it was. Very cool.

Looks like a strike though to me. Struck through what I don't know. @GARY R COYIER, can you please post a clear photo of those 2 raised areas under the N in the banner? It's the ONE.

Will try to get a picture under a scope for you tomorrow, Looking under my magnifier I don't see anything under the "N' in one. What did you notice?

Are you talking about the designer initials?

That's what I was wondering, I didn't see anything else there but initials.

The N in ONE, it's just under the ribbon. This is a good a shot as I can get. It blurs if I go any larger.

Those 2 wide lines side by side that are raised. To me they don't look like initials. They look like solid lines.

Sure doesn't look like it to me. Maybe I need to go to the eye doctor.

Look at one of these pennies. There is an initial under each side of the ONE CENT banner.
