The price of platinum has dropped to $1,539.00 per ounce (from a high of $2300 in March of this year). Naturally, one might expect the US Mint to lower their prices.

they have to reduce its prices accordingly. and fire those people in charge the pricing. they did a terrible decision on those prices.

actually this weeks Coin World announced the current prices, one ounce:
    $2,349.95.

The only thing falling is my jaw.

As the mint saying goes: Our Prices go up, but they never go down.

    mint overcharged

the mint is overcharged $50.00 per ounce for american eagle gold series and $500.00 for platinum series. is the mint gonna lower down the prices. it is up to them.

The mint has stopped the sale of all platinum eagles.

Contrary to popular opinion the mint HAS reduced their prices in the past. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.

The very few times that I have seen the mint lower prices, were years after the coins were minted, and they were clearance prices to get rid of "dead" items.

I agree, I have been purchasing from the mint since 86 and buying online since they started. I can't remember a time when the mint lowered the prices of current items for sale. Like WesleyScott said, it is usually when the mint wants to move "dead" items and they usually do not contain precious metals. Although, hell hast frozen over before.

They reduced the prices of some sets in 2007. But it is human nature to forget such things. People always tend to remember what they think of as negative and forget what they think of as positive.

Could have also been sets that I didn't buy and weren't paying a lot of attention to, which is not many - only platinum. So I guess I should rephrase and say that I have never seen the price reduced on the sets that I buy on a regular/yearly basis. If the price was reduced on the AGE sets then shame on me for not noticing because I check the US mint web site nearly daily and look for these things. If there is ever a change, NOT in my favor, be assured I will be on that phone with the mint. I was told by a customer service rep with the mint not too long ago that this is one of the reasons why the mint dosen't lower their prices because they say they don't want to make the customers who bought an item at a higher price feel like they have been cheated. Of course, this is just one persons comments.

There is a difference between lowering the prices mid-year and lowering them at the start of the year from what they were the previous year.
