Could someone suggest the best way to protect them? I found all mom's coins in sandwich bags, tossed in a gym bag, and they were in the trunk of her car for several years. Now I notice some are getting slight green spots (under the loupe), and members have often advised not to clean a coins. I can only image the condition of the coins will worsen if I don't find a cure.

sounds like you have pvc damage. Sometimes that can be dissolved with a dip in 100% acetone, which is a solvent and not a cleaner, so it shouldn't damage your coins. After that they should be stored in Albums, or in 2 x 2s.

I'd recommend Intercept shield 2x2's and boxes. The boxes are cheap. 2x2's a little pricey. Up to you what's worth putting in them. Then put them in something that can be closed relatively tightly, with large silica gel packs inside, in a dry area.
