I have this down to Obverse 3, Reverse D. Would greatly appreciate confirmation, or, in case a made a mistake, correction. Thanks!
I have no idea, but this link might help, and so might these gentlemen: http://www.novanumismatics.com/feuchtwangers-composition-cent-attribution-die-marriages-2/ @kazuma78 @Jaelus @Dougmeister @Randy Abercrombie @johnmilton @green18 @lordmarcovan @Chris B @SorenCoins @Conder101 @messydesk
Thank, you Brandon! I used the NGC Feuchtwanger Cent Variety Attribution guide and your link seems to confirm my tentative attribution. Hopefully somebody can confirm
For what it's worth, I arrived at the same attribution you did, but the photos are a bit small for me to discern. The beak and the alignment of the S and ribbon only seem to match the 3-D...
As a kid, I always wanted one of these. Never got one though but still have an itch for one. Nice one.
thanks again, Brandon. I used the link you sent just now as well. Pics are small but it does confirm my previous attribution. I can't believe I've had this coin since 1986 and I've never bothered to attribute it. It seems to be a pretty scarce variety, too.
I did notice that it was an R-7, very nice. The photos are pretty small, but there's enough to work with on them. I'm glad you've got it attributed. Also, 1986 was a good year!
Well, I am glad I 'found' this coin again in my collection. It is a Variety 3-D and it is a pretty rare one. The key die characteristics are: on the obverse the 3rd feather counting from the right clearly sett off the ground. On the reverse, the 'O' in ONE is clearly below N. I have only found references to two other example of 3-D. This one was auctioned by Stacks/Bowers NY a few years ago:
If was only by chance I decided to look at pictures of the Feuchtwanger cent in my collection. Somebody posted one in one of the FB groups a couple of days ago claiming it was a rare variety. Varieties of Feuchtwanger cents? that was news to me. So I looked at mine, checked on the internet, and wham! a 3D, rarity7. These 4 examples have been sold over the last years: Not bad for a 10$ investment in 1986.
Are you thinking of selling, not that I’m a buyer, or keeping it? Great opportunity to make a tidy profit! Reed.
That is a very nice example! In case you are interested, it combines obverse 3 (same obverse as my example), with reverse E.
