Amero Dollar, could be in the future since change comes as time goes on. Could also be that Mexico tanks out and the dollar takes over the peso there full time and a merger of nations in twenty years takes place with or without Canada. For all we know Canada may want to join the European Market with its ties to the British Common Wealth and France in the future as well. But one think we do know is change happens with time and just like we can't stop time we can't stop change only hope to manipulate it for our best interests.

    As for coin/currency collecting.
People still collect defunt coinage from ancient greek city states, roman empire, etc...
So if the American currency evolves/folds into something else in the future, the best will still be desired.

The coins are fantasy, the idea is not.

I honestly do not think is so crazy or conspiritorial to think their is a possibility of a currency shift. It has happened in the US last 100 years. So what it so unbelievable?

With the current economic outlook, and the spooked nature of Wall Street who knows what the outcome could be?

Our current currency has been debased to the tune of 98% since it was brought into existance. People think inflation is a reletive thing that really only pertains to the given time period.... So what if the dollar is only worth 2 cents for every 1908 dollar? Who cares is financial bubbles burst? What they fail to understand is their can be an end. Our money is a FAITH BASED system where you and I are the faithfull.

The American consumer is at the helm of this sinking ship... Not the FED, and not the Congress.... I would bet all my FRN's that a run on multiple banks will send our economy into ecomomic oblivion. Why? Because the FDIC has limited funds, when the bag gets out that your accounts are no longer insured you will rush to the bank. When you rush to the Bank the dominoes will fall.

I have already read that if WaMu fails the FDIC reserves will be depleted, and it would seem that they are next on the chopping block. Big Brother never expected to have to insure 58 billion in consumer bank accounts, but that number could be reached. What then???? Print more money... more big government bailouts???

If you believe that a reevaluation of the currency is not an option, then you are doing a good thing by BELIEVING... because my personal opinion is if the average JOE understood how the FED operated we would already have another currency.

Your car loan, your house loan, and your credit cards, are all little printing presses. The only person who loans you real money is another person... If it comes from a bank... it comes from nowhere... Debt is issued on the belief that you will pay it back.....

    Re: Common North American Currency

I am no expert by any means, but I know in Canada's early history we used a variety of foreign coins, but primarily US as our geographical location to them were so close.

I seem to remember reading an article about the decision to go with a Pound currency or a dollar currency, and the dollar currency was chosen. I think being so close to the states makes it almost necessary to have a similar currency in value as we do alot of trade with each other.

Although the country has alot of ties with Europe and Great Britain, I don't see us ever going for the Euro unless the US and Canada both tank for some very bad reason.

The Amero is a fantasy coin, to have a truly North American currency would take I think many years to implement. The designs look very "American" to me.

I think any real North American currency would really have to have one side a more universal North American theme. An Eagle I don't think really works, and Liberty on the back wouldn't fly either.

I'll worry about it when it comes...as for now I see no signs of us combining our currency and this is just a fantasy coin made by a private citizen...

You do know that Canadian Coins are constantly "used" in the USA on a daily basis? Almost on-par as one might say....

Now if Mexican coins are put into the mix....Oy.
