OK, now we're talking, thanks very much, Jack. Next time I get it out... :thumb: PS: An old odds-player, myself, BTW...so I tend to know about those kinds of things.
I doubt that it is a proof. Those rims look very weak and rounded on the reverse and I do not think that it is corrosion.
You've heard of DCAM for Deep Cameo, right? DEWWWW stands for Deep 'ewwww'. Just me funning around. dd:ewwww
Still can't tell from the pics, the rim does not appear to be sharp enough, I would show it to someone in person who is familiar with MPL's, take a look at the link below and compare it with your coin, hope it helps. http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=641261
Is it possible to clean that coin without hurting it? I have some in the same condition. If it can be cleaned safely how would it be done?
I have no idea of the die markers, and I am anything but an expert, but the rim doesn't look square enough to be a MPL. Just my $0.02, respectfully submitted...Mike
RLM, I'm beginning to get the idea (thanks again). Parklane, I knew, no problem. Sumorada, thank you very much for that informative link (it's a diagnostics primer, as good as I've seen). Foad, if anything is a candidate for restoration, this one is (but, that said, I wouldn't go near it, myself, with anything like that...not even distilled water). And Mike (Leadfoot), respectfully taken...that seems to be a problem. Just one other thing, guys. While I still don't remember how I got it, I know I didn't find it in a parking lot or some darn thing. This was before the Internet. I could have got it at a swap meet, or a local dealer, but, if I had, I think I'd have kept their flip. As kids we did a lot of trading between and among ourselves, and, that's where I'm leaning, as to how I must have got this. Just, FWIW...
Would this be diagnostic? Bottom one is mine, top one is from a proof (apparently, anyway...snatched the pic from another forum). If so, I guess mine gets the thumbs down, final answer...
