Hi everyone, I haven't posted here in a few weeks, due to a flare-up of some medical issues. Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm better now, and plan to post a bunch of coins in the next few weeks (mostly stuff from the end of 2019 that I haven't gotten around to yet). So far in 2020 I have bought just one coin, but it has a pretty remarkable history behind it: It looks like an Islamic coin, but it was not issued by an Islamic government (and no, it's not a Crusader coin...) Just to keep things legal, here's a photo of another coin I will post soon, a scarcer Parthian variety:
Hey, you wouldn’t happen to be the same Parthicus that used to post on the ebay coins&paper money board years ago?
I like the toning on that coin. What distinguishes it as a rare variety? Glad you are doing better. Health problems are no fun. I have some issues that slow me down and I hate feeling like I am wasting time being sick instead of doing anything useful. John
Thanks for all the kind words, everyone. I have a good support network of "real world" friends, family, and co-workers, but it is always good to know that I am appreciated here, too. Svein, is that you? Yes, I used to post on the eBay board a while ago, but gradually stopped as they made the collectibles boards harder to use. It's been a long time since I posted there (or bought on eBay, for that matter), this is my main online numismatic hangout now. That will be explained in my full write-up, which should come later today (if I can maintain my schedule). Oh, and while my newest coin hasn't arrived yet, I thought I'd post the seller's photo just to whet some appetites. As I said, it looks like a normal Islamic coin at first (specifically an Abbasid dirham), but closer inspection will reveal it to be an imposter:
Glad you are feeling better, thanks for posting your nice coin! I just decided myself to collected Parthian coinage John
Yes, that’s me old friend And I’m so happy to see you. It occured to me a year ago that I really missed the people I used to discuss ancient coins with on that board; you, Henri, Gary and others, and that coin collecting should not be a lonely hobby. So now I’m here, lurking and posting, and looking forward to learning more about Parthian and Islamic coins from you
