I would like everyone's input. I have ordered a $25 bag of P's and D's. What is the better investment, Leaving them in the sealed bags? Or storing them in rolls? I planned on buying a few single rolls to hand out and for my single set any way but thought this would be a great place to get opinions. Thanks!!!!
Don't have a license to give investment advice, so to stay out of trouble with the SEC, I'll just pass.
SEC???? what does that mean? I don't expect a giant return or anything I just never bought a sealed bag before
SEC = Securities and Exchange Commission. You have to be licensed to be a financial planner / investment broker.
Well don't get mad or anything, but as an investment vehicle it will not do good, at least not for many years if ever. If millions & millions are minted, what do you think they will be worth? Now if I had a choice, originally sealed OGP whether rolls, bags or box to me will always be worth more. But nickels? investment? sorry that does not compute with me ATT, maybe they will be worth something next century.. . You wanna invest buy old high grade buffalo nickels, or any old gold coin in AU or BU state , now that to me is an investment . Now I did buy the 2-roll set from the mint, like the quarter sets that I own, which are Florida, Texas & just now I bought California. I plan to buy Colorado when they come out, for investment? Not really because it will be many many years if ever that they could possibly be worth mucho dinero--I bought them for their beauty first, and hopefully 1 day rarity, then maybe increase value if we are lucky, investment was not in this equation..Thats the ticket, how rare is it??
You paid almost twice face value for them in the bag. If you had scoured the banks and begged a little, you could maybe have bought them for face value. There is definitely a loss of value if you crack that bag open. Having said this, I might buy bag myself specifically to crack it open, since I will not have the chance to scour the banks for face value rolls.
My advice would be to keep the BAGS sealed as that in itself will probably be a rarity in less than two years! Why? Because everyone opens them to cherry pick high grade coins so very few bags remained sealed. And, should an error be discovered those bags will be opened faster than the blink of an eye. Thousands and thousands of collectors, and non-collectors, are hoarding and stashing away at this very time and the bulk of that stash will be rolls, both paper and plastic tubes so they will be readily available should a price increase come our way. But how many bags intact will remain? While I agree you are not ever going to get rich of a couple of bags of buffalo nickels I do think there will be a quicker increase in value in a sealed Mint bag. Now for all you nay-sayers out there who just can't believe there is any hope of ever making a dime of these nickels....HAVE ANY OF YOU BOUGHT OR PRICED THE 2004 PEACE MEDAL NICKEL ROLLS FROM PHILADELPHIA LATELY! EVERYTHING WE DO EVERYDAY IS A GAMBLE so relax and enjoy the hobby! If it is good for you---go for it! It is YOUR collection and only YOUR collection and the only important decisions regarding your collection is YOURS! When these nickels ALL end up in the hands of private individuals, and they will very very quickly, just what would HAVE to happen to put some of them back on the market? The KEY is knowing when to buy and when to sell! This is basically a 6 to 9 month issue or a once in a lifetime deal! Think about it and you can bet your Morgans I will be here this time next year to do a little price comparisons with you all! Keep the bags sealed!!!
this is awesome feedback!!!!! I guess "Investment" was the wrong choice of words. I just want to get everyone opinion on keeping the bags sealed. I don't have any intention of parting with them at this point I will be putting them with the rest of my collection of course the rolls I purchse will be given away to friends and the old timers I know who were around when the origional buffalos were circulating in hopes of promoting our beloved hobby
With the returns you get on CD's and savings accounts, I figure BU nickel rolls picked up face value at the banks should do better. Lot more fun too!!!
I am with txwille on this one! I have made by far more money in coins the last 10 years than the banks, stocks or 401K. Of course, I eat, sleep and work coins everyday of my life so I would guess I am coin poor but happy!
I did manage to find 3 rolls of these at the bank for face and have been handing them out like candy. Everyone seems to really dig the new design. Foolish? I think not I am just trying to turn others on to coin collecting. What is your opinion on the sealed bag? Keep sealed or roll em?
