I been looking at the MARC, it would be $24 round trip from Brunswick. To Camden and about a 2 block walk to the Convention center. The last time I drove it cost me over $20 in gas and $12 for parking and that was when gas was under $3 a gallon! Just trying to figure out exactly how long the actual train trip will take? May drive down to Vienna take the metro into DC and jump on the MARC from there.
Well, I finally decided to go! Still working the details but might be the only chance I get to get to an ANA World Fair of Money so got to go! Hope to be posting some pics this weekend of all my cherried treasures. LOL!
I'm going early Friday. Looking to get there in the 10-11AM window. I'm in Silver Spring, MD, so I figue about $15 for gas and $20 for parking. Meeting some people from the eBay Coin Chatroom; two from PA and one from GA. Busy show for me; eight things on my buy or investigate list. Things just all showed up at one time. Unusual. Most often I spend more time driving than at the show. This time will be different. I'll return home when the "to do" list is done.
Well, just looked at the schedule and saw that it is open to the public starting tomorrow! Does anyone know if it would be better to wait till Friday (maybe more dealers) or if Wed - Sat would be ruffly the same as far a dealer participation. I'm thinking dealers stock will be better tommorrow! What do ya'all think?
This is the ANA! Stock will be no problem. If you want to avoid crowds, Wed and Thurs are best, although dealers tend to wander around, so you may encounter unmanned tables. Friday should be an "in between" day, more people, more dealers on post. Sat should be mayhem. Also depends upon what you want to do. I need to visit the graders, so Sat is definitely out.
Thanks Kanga. I'm seriously thinking about being "sick" tommorrow at the ANA. LOL!! Friday is my scheduled day off but might not wait!
We drove there yesterday, parking was $16 but very close to the convention center and gas was about $18 in the honda fit my wife has. A trifle compared to the $2500 I dumped on new material at the show and that was peanuts compared to what the pros were spending. Wew!
I actually went yesterday as well. Ended up driving, the train schedule is pretty lousy would have hand to leave the house around 6AM and get home around 7PM. Didn't care for the show but thats me!
You too! We met someone there who was from NJ and another from California to buy coins we pre-arranged look at and buy, but other than that, we picked up some supplies, clothing, one other coin and walked around with nothing that really grabbed my eye. There is going to be a coin show in Vienna, VA next weekend and I am going to check it out. I have done fairly well there if I get lucky and stumble on to something nice.
Yea I'm going to try to make it to Vienna as well. Have done well there myself. I sure wish they would find a larger room to have that show though! I can't believe that the fire department allows that many people into such a small space?
That's the reason I've given up on Vienna. WAAAAY too crowded. The NOVA show is good and the one in Chantilly is better. But actually with the three Whitman shows in Baltimore, I don't really need any others, except like this week when the ANA shows up.
went today and noticed that it wasn't very crowded. i was informed yesterday saw more traffic across the tables. i thought many dealers had high prices - the foreign buyers can afford it i guess and that keeps those with greenbacks from buying. i had a dealer who was looking to add a $25.00 premium to a coin because it was in a first generation PCGS slab and the coin was easily undergraded by today's standards. i bit my tongue and walked away - i'll never do business with him. got to catchup with some dealers that never come around to the Whitman shows so that was a nice change. plenty of over priced gold and more Morgans than is probably legal -Steve
we are lucky - we can complain about overcrowded shows. i like the Vienna show - but than again i'm related to the people that put it on -Steve
Has anybody been to the Heritage auctions they're having there? I went to HA live and was amazed at how fast they were auctioning off coins online along with floor bidders. Was wondering how many people were there for them and if there's one auctioneer flying through them that fast? I know they've got a lot to sell but an average $5k coin going every 8 seconds or less? That'd be something to see.
typically there are 20-40 ppl in person. if you want to see some crazy auctions, try some of the Canadian ones - they get 200-400 ppl in person plu s phone bids - some high drama in there for sure. -Steve
I just got back today, having been on the floor Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning. I had a blast. There was a wealth of good quality ancient coins. In fact, I had more trouble finding lower-quality material (outside of the few outstanding pick-bins). From what little attention I payed to the US dealers, I did notice the overwhelming predominance of slabs. If you've truly sworn to collecting raw coins, your best bet would have been the large cents. The EAC dealers keep the majority of their material raw. I spent almost all of my money, returning with about 60 rather nice (for the money) coins. More importantly, I made a wealth of connections that will *hopefully* pay off in the future.
