Has anyone received one in circulation yet? Is anybody here trying to get them into circulation? Can you go to any bank and ask for a roll? I'm not going to pay the US mint $35.00 and shipping to get $25.00 worth of circulation coins. There isn't even good deals on ebay. So, I'm hoping that you can get them at the bank for even money. I would like to get some. Maybe 50 dollars worth or so, now and then. I don't want 500.00 worth of them. I like the designs and it would be neat if they would start circulating. I won't be hoarding them. If I ever get one that is.
I have got them in circulation before, but its not that common. I know that some banks do stock rolls, but not all do. Also, some banks (I don't know if all of them) will use rolls only rolled by themselves. For example, I work at US Bank and my branch doesn't get rolled dollars but our bigger branches do. But, those rolls aren't federal mint rolls, but rolls that were rolled by US Bank and will contain Presidents, Sacajawea, and SBAs. But, I'm sure some banks do use mint rolls...but I don't know which one's. I would just grab a phone book and call around to different banks (and different branchs of the same bank). See if they have rolled dollars, if so...are they rolls from the mint. Also, find out if you need to be an account holder to buy them.
In my part of the country I have never received one from circulation. Banks around here have very few and really do not like to fool with them. There was some interest in the Washington Dollar due to the errors but most of them were returned and the banks re wrapped them is some ugly brown rollers. I have not had any trouble getting the few rolls I have from them. If you want to get both the P and D mint mark, may take a little work since The Philadelphia coin was primarily distributed east of the Mississippi river and the D Mint mark was west of the great river, or something like that
I've been trying to put some into circulation. everyone gets mad at me, but that makes it more fun lol. get the $250 from the us mint, and take what you dont want to the bank, if you dont want to spend them that is. it will save you $10+
These and other small dollar coins are rather common on the NY/NJ rail system - all of the ticket dispensers give change with them.
No banks have rolls from the mint directly, as they buy them from the Federal Reserve, who contracts out to another company to roll them. Just thought I'd throw that out there for anyone thinking they're going to find the same type of rolls in a bank as they would from an order from the Mint. Guy~
The postage vending machine at the post office gives them as change. That's the only place I've received any, but I go occasionally and get some, then spend them or use them as part of the tip I leave at restaurants.
Yeah, I've gotten one before in my tips at work. I didn't even realize it at first; thought it was a Sacagewea until I actually looked at it. Also, I know my bank has them as I always see those and halfs in this wooden holder they keep at each of their stations, or whatever it is you call the teller's immediate working area. The circulated ones are alright. I like the proofs better. I'm building a set of PF69-NGC pres. dollars and have 'em all thus far. I think it'll be completed at around 2016!!
In central Iowa they are easy to get at banks. My roommate goes through a 25 dollar roll of them every week. I can walk into either of my banks and get a roll of them without having to special order them. I'm more focused on 2 dollar bills and half dollars but will use them when he pays me for something with them.
