1776-1996 "AC" Quarter Rolls

I've got a question about some coins I was going thru from my grandfather's collection. He wrote on the tops of the tubes "1776-1976 AC". Does anybody know what this means?

"All Clad" -- ???

 

Ya know I never thought about that, there may be something to that one Bonedigger. How could I tell if they were silver-clad?

By the copper ring in the middle . Also the 40% silver ones were all from the S mint . But not all the S mint coins were silver .

The "S" mintmark would be one clue...

They're various mints apparently, and honestly the edges look very simular to current coinage.. I suppose I may not know what to look for there.

 

If when you look at the edge of the coins they look like a regular quarter (copper on edge) then they are clad. If you only see silver on the edge then they are probably 40% silver. From the pics you posted I can tell that the ones in the picture are clad.

 

So maybe he was just keeping a roll of silver clad quarters. My grandfather had some weird things he did, take for example the packing tape he used to wrap around the seal of each tube. (you can see the residue on the rolls in the 3rd picture). Now 30 years later the tape is decaying and the glue has ruined the outside of the plastic rolls. It's made for a messy situation cause the tape is brittle now and falls apart all over the place.. lol.

 

While the silver clads dont look like the old 90% silver coins , they look different then the bright copper in the non silver clads , a darker more silvery color .

Already checked (for errors a DDO is listed in Breen for the D mint) maybe. Or all cracked(die cracks).

Joe Paonessa carved this nickel. I bought it from him at the ANA Summer Seminar. He calls himself the "world's greates left-handed hobo nickel carver". He's pretty darn good.

 

what was your grand fathers initials just wondering?

 

M.S. Nobody with the those initials in my family that I know of.

I've put the quarters away to come back to later.. I think I'm leaning towards the All Clad or knowing my grandfather, it'd be American Commemorative. Maybe I'll just grade them individually and ignore what's written on the tubes.
