On my way back to Michigan I got this as change while I was buying something. My first ever:) Is it worth anything over face? I am a coin collector and actually have no interest in this, but I am happy of my find.

Not a bad find, what you have there is a series 1999 Atlanta $5 star note. Your note falls into the third and final print run for Atlanta star notes in that series, being between serial numbers BF09600001* through BF19840000*. That is a print run of 10.24million, which is the largest of the 1999 series...and as far as I can tell, it's the most printed star note in the history of the $5 FRN.

So, based on that and it's condition...it's probably not worth much more than face, if anything. But, being that it's your first star note and is an older one (1999 stars aren't that common anymore), I'd probably hang on to it. But, I doubt this note will ever be worth much.

Yeah, if you start posting a lot of stars around here you'll hear that from ole' Dag. He has already laid claim to any of my circulation $1 star finds if I decided get get rid of any of them.

Here's my * story. My first * was 1999 $10 - it was a change in a bar - bk05411432* - nothing special. The second was unusually used $20 of 2004 (in grade it was similar to stainless's $5), so I've spent it (it was not easy - I was carrying it for at least a week). And today I've got 3rd one - 2003A $1 F02662041* - I'd say EF - (before anyone check it for me - it's from a single run of 3.2M printed in OCTOBER 2005 - I'm going to post a separate question about it). It was somebody's tip in a bar - I've asked bartender if I can take it and give her another one - she woudn't surrender it easily and I had to edicate her about * notes a little.
