My late father purchased this during the Nixon administration. I wished he would have put in a bid for a better date! For those interested in the history of how these CC coins came up for sale to the public, see this interesting link:

Now here is my baggy coin. I know my pictures aren't the greatest, but give me your best grading estimate:

Ben, I use the same +/- system. :)

Anyway, agreed, because I think the standards are loosening up some...

When I was a kid, I tore off the assigned GSA number not realizing that original packaging would be important. Would this impact the resale value? I have all the other materials - box & inserts.

MS-64....hey Cat, I don't think your dad had a choice in the date. If memory serves (and I could be wrong) you just sent a bid in for these coins ($35?).

No they gave you several options , the '82 , '83 , '84 were around $30 , they also had various dates the rarer costing more , they even had circulated CC ,and non CC dates but a lot of those were just toned MS CC , Can't remember all the different dates they had but it was quite a few , maybe someone else remembers .

I think that one's gotta be an MS64. Nice strike, lotsa luster, reverese is really great and a 65 by itself. Bagginess probably exaggerated by the photo.

Way to go, Dad ! :thumb:

Right Rzage: But as I remember, there was no set price. You placed a bid and if accepted you got a coin. I thought the minimum was $35 as I remember my father put a bid in for this amount and did score a coin....don't remember what year it was though.

    I just looked it up the lowest bid was for $15 for '78-CC & Mixed CC $300 For 1879-CC , $60 FOR '80 & 81 CC , $30 FOR '82,3,4 -CC ,$60 For 85&89-CC , $30 For '90 ,91 -CC , $5 FOR Mixed unc & circ . dollars non CC . These prices were for the 1st sale in 1972 , there were 5 sales altogether .

What Am I missing? The chunk of metal missing between the E & D in United would make this coin at best a 61.

That is no missing chunk...it is only where the rubber/plastic overlaps the coin.

It is the same between the A and the M in America.
