What's everyone's thoughts on the new gold set that the US Mint is going to release on 8-8-08? Apparently, this will be the second product in the US mints Celebration series that recognizes that the number 8 in some Asian cultures represents success. I think the set is neat, but because there are no mintage limits, I think this will have very little numismatic value over bullion. The set will display one half ounce unc buffalo and one half ounce AGE in a wooden box. This set is coming out August 1st. Attached is the link to the US Mint's article. http://www.usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?action=press_release&ID=924
Number two daughters birthday.....significant indeed....other than that, I'll pass. Hey Joe; I'm over 500!!
forget all this prosperity and get on the royal mint website their 4 coin silver Britannia set is out of this world sigh
Remember the 2006 AGE 3 coin set.... just bullion right? Well 10,000 sets and a few hours later a nice investment of $2300 turned into $5k practically overnight. I have been looking for this set for the past few years and can't find it for less than 4k! Understandably, that this price is primarily for the reverse proof, but still expensive nonetheless. That is what limited mintage and high demand can do to "bullion" coins.
OK! Sold. Check is in the mail... why don't you go outside and wait for it at your mailbox. It will be there in a few days.
is there anything special about the coins (different mint mark or finish)? Or are they just regular coins.
Did anyone see box that these coins come in. I will try to post a link, but if you go to the US mint website, they have a pic of it. It is a very nice box and holder.... probably one of the nicer ones the mint has come out with, but with no limited mintage for this set... its just not worth it to spend the money. What a shame. The mint needs to start limiting the mintage like they did with the 06 AGE sets and let everyone go after it. This set had the potential to become one of the most sought after sets if it just had a limited production.
