I recently bought this 1931s 1 cent. It is in a old ANACS white slab and is graded MS64 Red. I see a little bit of spots on the cent, is this still a red cent or is this a RB? Also, what do you think about the numeric grade? I heard people say old white ANACS slab are graded more conservatively than now.
In my opinion that coin to me looks like a Red one because I still see a lot of luster. So its a Red.
Luster doesn't determine the red designation. The coin still looks like it fits the Red designation. Cool slab!
Yep, I'm with CC76. It's dead red. But it looks as if that 64 may be just a titch too generous......but maybe not. Love the reverse. Reverse looks like a 66, if not for that little blemish by the "U" in UNUM. Nice coin, MDG!
I'm new to cents. I see there is some gray/borwn spots on Licoln's face, are these contact marks like those on Morgan dollars? I mostly collect silver dollars. Those gray/brown spots made me post this question.
Looks to me like environmental damage. Meaning maybe it was left in a very cold car all night long or something worse. That said, I could be totally wrong as I am hardly a Lincoln cent expert.
