I bought this coin last week and I believe it is a VDB proof. Any help or thoughts on this coin would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! The dot between the d and b is perfectly centered and not nearer to the d. A crescent shaped die chip mark between the M in Unum and the wheat stalk. Both on the reverse.

It's not a matte proof. Still a nice coin.

Here’s a better shot of the dot between the d and b. Thanks again for looking and the input EF927CA5-4F18-4279-BCDD-8883D64FFB9A.jpeg

It’s hard to get a pic of the die chip next to the M in UNUM. I can also see some other proof diagnostics with my loupe, like the die lines by Lincoln’s nose and also the die polish line running from the back of the coat to the R in liberty.

Forget what you just wrote. Forget the die chip. Enjoy the coin as is. As stated above, it's a nice business strike coin with nice mint luster. Put it in the 2x2 flip and protect it.

I’m still leaning towards it’s a proof. I am going to take it to my trusty dealer this weekend so he can look at it in person. It just has too many of the diagnostics that you want to see with a VDB proof. I might be wrong but then again I might be right too. I’ll keep y’all updated!

Just remeber that it has to have ALL the diagnostics of the matte proof. Every single one or its not one. Good luck!

I’m positive it’s not a matte proof but it could be a regular VDB proof. It’s worth having an expert look at it in person.

There are no "regular" or brilliant 1909 proofs; its matte or not a proof.

That’s my bad. I was just reading yesterday that there are two types of VDB Proofs, I didn’t realize they were both matte proofs. Thanks for the info I appreciate it. I also read that one has a wide square rim and the other one does not.

Don't think I have ever heard of a proof without a square rim. Let us know what your dealer sez
