Hi guys, just a little question here...in the left side of this coin...the rim is very thick, I just want to know if its an error or just happened as time passed...the coin has no fold-like or anything like that...has no signs of it to be intentional...the coin is as plain as the other ones...thanks guys! ...I hope there's no problem with the picture... Ivan
I believe that most likely is an error. It appears to be a "Major die break", aka "CUD". This happens when a portion of one of the dies breaks off. When the coin is struck, the planchet metal will flow into the space created by the missing piece of die, and the result will be a raised area on that side of the coin.
Jody526 may be correct, though in such a low grade it's often difficult to tell for sure. However,if the area affected seems as high as the stars near it,I'd also say this may be a cud error as discribed in the first reply that you recieved from Jody526 ~ Jim
Hi, thanks for the replies guys! However how do you think this affects the value of the coin...I mean...positive...negative...anyone knows if this is a common error? Thanks. Ivan
It may be of interest to error collectors. They might give you a little more than $15.00 for it. I can't see the reverse, so it may, or may not be a G-4. You have to understand, that this coin has practicly no details. It's somewhat low mintage, is the only reason it's worth as much as it is.
Thanks for your help pal, Im not willing to sell any of my coins anyway, and the reverse of the coin isnt that good either...Im not really an Error Coin collector, I just went through this one. Thank you very much for all your help. Ivan
Hi Ivan I hope you dont mind me asking the same question about a 1993 Lincoln memorial cent I found while hunting bank rolls. Thank you everyone for your input.
This thread is 16 years old... Might want to consider creating your own thread and posting for your question... ~Rob
I apoligize brand new first day is my only excuse. It figures I would do it wrong so well thanks for letting me know.
No worries... I' new at this too. Also, when you post your thread and upload pictures, put your cursor where you want it in the text box and then hit the "large image" bubble to put the pictures directly into your text box. Helps us all look at the photos. ~Rob
