1983 1c

I don't know what I want to call this one exactly but I know a couple things I don't want to call it, an off-center strike or a broadstrike. I want to say this is either misaligned dies and/or a broken collar die. I know these scans aren't the greatest, but if you'll look at the rim just between the CA, there's an indent (upper rim) and a small deposit of metal (lower rim). I hope you can at least make these rims out, lol. Anyway, just don't have my camera with me, or I'd tilt the coin, and show this area to you better. So, what do you think? Thanks.

obverse looks like a misaligned die.
could be a microscopic offcenter piece, based on the reverse.

 

I would agree. The obverse looks pretty typical of the billions of cents produced these days, but the reverse, where the word "United" appears to be falling off, it could be a minor mis-aligned die, or it could also just be your typical bad strike.

 

You're forgetting about this. Blow it up. It's a small cud and it's on the rim. And there are only three places (as in "dies") it could have come from. I agree there's a misaligned die going on, in addition...

 

Looks like a minor off-center strike. The rough surface could be from blistered plating.

 

I want to photograph this when I get free, today, Mike; or, over the weekend. Please stand by. I just want to make sure you're all seeing what I'm seeing, as good as I can. And Frank and Daggar, I'm just trying to understand, here, and I hope/trust the two of you understand that. Thanks.

That little metal tag would appear to be a small rim cud. In other words, a small piece broke off the rim gutter of the reverse die.

 

That makes cents. :whistle:
