    Imo it appears to be a MAD (misaligned die) let see what others think.

    I'm obviously not an expert...
    But just wondering, wouldn't deterioration effect the lettering? The letters are crisp..
    Especially "AMERICA"

    It's a small Ridge ring. What you see on the coin is caused by a tired worn out Die that should have been removed from service before it was. It's common nowadays. It's also on a zinc planchet.
