My parents had a rather large Tool and Materials yard sale this weekend, and I think I may have some very interesting finds while going thru the change that was handed out. It's like all the locals just picked up some change from old penny jars. Already found a few wheats and some paid with halves and dollars (not the new ones). I'll post my findings here soon. The reason for this post is to bring up interesting places that you've found coins in the past. I'd like to hear your stories.
A couple of years ago I had a yard sale and got half dollars and $2 bills to give out in change. I had several people remark that they hadn't seen either in years. When all was done after three days, I did find a 1957-D dime in the change bin.
That's really neat. I almost got mad at my Mom, because she wasn't looking at the change when somebody needed it.. but I can't fault her, she's not a collector.. so who knows what I may have gotten. I was only there for the 2nd day of the 2 day sale. My rents thought I was crazy for buying up all the change.. lol. -DJ
If you have a metal detector, check under the bleachers of any school or other sports complex (including car racing) and under the playground equipment of schools which have been closed for a few years.... My first 1931-S cent was found under the spot where an iron pipe-like pyramid knicknamed "Monkey Bars" used to be on the playground of a county school that had been closed for fifteen years before I found it...
