Yes i compared them to other 92 d pennies. i watched a video on it and it looks to me like a close am. they are rare though and it would be nice if it was one. it would my first rare coin find. fingers crossed.
That's a Wide AM. In the Close AM the A and The M are almost touching. Looks like yours has a stain that gives it an appearance that they are closer.
It’s a WAM. As you posted, the FG is a good diagnostic if you are having trouble with the spacing in AMERICA. Also, STATES has the proper spacing. Use Variety Vista and a myriad of visual comparisons to compare the RDV appearances.
WAM. Another indicator is the A in STATES. In a WAM, the A is centered between the two T's. A CAM will have the A favor toward the second T. For the FG, besides just the serifs on the G, the WAM will have the letters close to the memorial with the F almost touching. It takes a little study to see the differences. Take good examples of both types and compare the two, say a '91 and a '95 (the don't have the varieties to worry about)
remember, it's not for every years, The dates to watch for are 1992, 1992-D, 1998, 1999, and 2000 to understand the phenomena this is a good page ==> http://lincolncentsonline.com/closeWide.html
I like learning these little things in this forum. I knew about the FG's proximity to the Memorial, but I didn't know about the "A" and the serif in G. Thanks!
What would make even more sense? Would NOT be smelling the coin....but taking something like the head of a Number 2 Pencil....and faking a movement thru the A and the M....if you cannot continue forward...with the point of a simple pencil....perhaps a valuable coin is NOT YOURS...at least not yet as it appears to the case with this coin....the pencil does NOT look like it's point will pass thru quite freely...or with very little RESISTANCE to the flow of ink or the head of a pencil....
Yes, post full size, clear, in focus, pictures that are shot looking at the coin straight on and not at an angle.
