When I found this coin, I knew it was an LWC because of the reverse. The obverse was covered in crud; no date available. Several soaks and VerdiCare, it revealed itself finally. 1909VDB (details) I wonder how it got that way!
Since I rummage through a box a night, I have scored my fair share of '09's over the years. However, I have yet to cross paths with an '09-S or the Big Boy ('09-S VDB). But, back in '98, I did find an '11-S that would absolutely knock your socks off! Setting aside as much prejudice as humanly possible, it had to have been an MS 65 RB with magnificent toning. What I wouldn't give to have that puppy back. An old girlfriend back then locked eyes on it one evening when I was showing it off to her and the rest is history. She got the coin and I got the loin.....I better cease and desist right there. Anyway, they are almost impossible to find these days, but gems are still to be had out there.....speaking of cents not girlfriends .
@White Ger. Shep. Lover When we CRH enthusiasts find an MS coin...especially a key/semikey, it was likely a liberated coin. An MS LWC that's 75+ years old, I would have to guess it was cracked from someone's collection and set free. Keep looking though...you may find its twin!
Will do, Kevin. It's twin would be a dream come true. As dry as it's been lately, I would even settle for it's ugly red haired cousin.....or should I say RB haired cousin.
