That's really nice, and cool that it seems to be the same RIC coin! Do you know if the lefties are rare for Vespasian and Titus as well?
Curtis Clay responded to my post on Forum ancients coins with the following: "Further details of pedigree: RIC gives the source of its illustrated example as "Berk at Vcoins, 2005." The coin was formerly Berk cc50283. According to our database we sold it to _________ in May 2007. "The Morris Collection" is Heritage's pseudonym for _________." My coin is confirmed as the RIC plate coin. I am really excited by this.
Unbelievable, Andrew! Just, Unbelievable! Well done, and what a cool reverse! And, a third Sinister of that guy... nice. Congrats! Whale? Like you in your collecting focus, I have a few. And, the cool feeling of landing them is great!
The coin arrived today with 2 nice surprises. It is nice to have the extra information ut there is a mystery involved. I am a bit confused about the information provided. I know that the Berk tag confirms that this coin was the Berk coin. The tag refers to CNG 53 Lot 1253 and states "same dies". On the other hand the envelope also references CNG 53 Lot 1523. The envelope makes it appear that this coin is the coin in the CNG sale. I wonder which one it is? I may have to order a copy of CNG catalogue from auction 53 in order to find out. does anyone have this catalogue handy?
CNG 53, 1523 is a different specimen from the same dies as yours, as I stated on the Berk ticket. If I had meant that it was the identical specimen, of course I would have written "This coin"!
Thank you Curtis. I appreciate your reply. I had assumed that you would have written "This Coin" but the envelope seemed to contradict this. That is why I had a question. If it had been the same coin I would have bought the CNG catalogue. Now I do not need to do that so thanks again.
Since this coin is not in the standard catalogues, the reference I gave for it on the Berk ticket was "CNG 53, 2000, lot 1523 (same dies)". In typing "CNG 53, lot 1523" on his own envelope, Phil Peck was merely copying and somewhat abbreviating my reference from the Berk ticket. He did not mean that his coin was the same piece as the CNG example.
