I dunno how much you paid, or how much difference the gold makes, but I can buy an uncirculated set of every state quarter, including California, from both P and D mints, for about $35-$40.

I recommend comparing the price you paid to similar lots on ebay. The television sellers must dramatially increase the prices in order to cover costs. Usually you will find similar or better coins for less with a little extra effort.

edited to add: here's what I have in mind from your description.

Most coin collectors consider gold plated coins to be damaged sufficiently that they will normally have no numismatic value. It's possible future collectors will find these to have numismatic value but it is unlikely since counterfeiting should be relatively simple. There is only a few cents worth of gold on these and removing it will prove costly and ruin the coins.

If you like these coins then the price is not extremely high. Just be sure you understand there may be no market for them in the future.

Flam, before you buy any more coins off TV... remember, the salesmen are trying to get you to buy them as an "impulse purchase". Check around at your local coin shops or eBay for coins you're interested in. Also, if you absolutely, positively must have the coins offered on TV, go to their website - they're almost always offered there for sale, too. You don't have to "buy in the next 10 minutes" even though the TV salesmen are saying that. You can almost ALWAYS find better deals at your coin shops or eBay.

I steer clear of the TV salesmen. The costs of TV broadcasting is enormous and they have to recoup their costs by charging you extra.

I never buy anything from the TV shopping channels.

I was sitting and watching this home shopping channel when they offered these sets of quarters, along with some gold dollars etc in other offerings.

I remember saying to the wife, " do you think anyone actually buys these things from them, especially at those prices?" She responded that they must or they wouldn't be on the air. We both had a good laugh, and started watching professional wrestling where there is an equal amount of honesty.

If you like what you got and were happy to pay the price, then you got a good deal.

BUT....you did not buy collectable coins, only "collectables".

My advice - unless oyu absolutley love them and like them for wat they are (NOT collectable coins), I would try to return them.

How funny I was watching that last night trying to get a look at the new Buffalo Nickles I also thought that was a little high for gold plated quarters I agree they are collectables not collector coins and if you like them Well... they are worth it. Just don't expect to get your investment back when you go to resell them.
