Looks like a minor off center strike with a bit of finning. Might be called a misaligned die to some.

 

It is a misaligned strike. Slight Dual misaligned die strike. Nice rim cud.

 

Is cud an acronym?

 

No.. Just a cud. It's used to describe a break on the Die always involving the edge.
So the break on the die will cause the area of the struck blank to be a cud..

 

Just wondering how they come up with the term cud.

 

Thanks for setting it straight. I thought if both sides were misaligned it would be called off center. I'm learning.

 

The term 'Cud' was used back in the mid '60's due to most
of these large Die Break 'blobs' looked like a cow's (chewing) Cud;
the name stuck.

 

Or a chewed cud of tobacco.
