    Hello! :D

I received my very first bust half dollar, which I payed $35 for :D I held it in my hand, and realized it seemed a little "funky". So I got a regular Kennedy Half Dollar, and they were different sizes! My bust was actually bigger? Is it suppose to be like that?

If authentic, please grade, and give me a variety?

    Thanks! :)

Ps: Looks authentic to me and I'd give it a F-12/VF-20 and well worth what you paid for it. :thumb:

    Ryan,

Your Bust Half was struck without a collar. The Mint did not start using collars for Half Dollars until 1836. When a coin is struck without a collar there is nothing to prevent the metal from flowing outward (making the diameter of the coin larger) as the planchet is being squeezed by the dies. The diameter of coins struck without a collar varies from coin to coin.

With the advent of the collar the diameter of coins was much more uniform.

F-15, Harshly Cleaned, O-110; center dot between crossbars 4&5, left shield corner is decidedly outside the Eagles body & Top Arrowhead - last A in America is about 1/2 of a mm, I is centered under left side of T, stars are large.

R-1 (over 1000 known specimens) Good buy for $35.00 I've seen some in this condition go for over $50.00

    Take Care

It definitely has been cleaned, but otherwise it's a nice coin. Not bad at all for the money.

Get a magnifying glass and look at the horizontal bars on the shield of the coins reverse. Count down four or five from the top, kinda on the left hand side and you will see a little dot.

    :)

The little blobby thingy in between the fourth & fifth bar, on the left side, just short of the edge of the shield? :kewl:

    Ribbit :)
