Well guys today I went and setup at the KY Coin Show. It was alittle smaller this year with only 4 other coin dealers....but it was also larger in the way that 3 of the dealers had 3+ tables and there was a great turn out. While I didn't sell that much---that didn't bother me because I really didn't care. I did buy a few coins...I'll try to post pic's later. 1943-P Nickel UNC 1943-D Nickel UNC Both of these I think have RPMS--I haven't looked them up yet. A 1941-S in what the dealer called EF--I call AU. WARNING---I know I shouldn't say this because of what has been said here lately.... I cherrypicked this coin---it was $4 and it was a LARGE S!!!! I also bought 4 rolls of BU 1962-D Half Dollars. I tried talking the guy down but he at first wouldn't go. So when I started walking away he lowered his asking price and it was below melt. So needless to say I bought them!!! I didn't really need them, and that was money that I might should have saved, but I thought that if just one came back good, it would be worth it. I've looked through one roll so far and found one or two that would go FBL! He also put in a 1954-D in UNC as an extra.... I also got to meet a Forum Member!!! markh. It was great to meet you!! Speedy
Well my one camera went on the blink so I'll have to wait to get pics. My first look through the rolls of Franklins was to pull out any that I thought would get the FBL grade from NGC. Since NGC is pretty strict on these I've tried to be pretty picky and only get the best. I pulled out my FBL'ers and have looked at them as well. I pulled out 22 that have the best chance at FBL. Now my next move is to go through and find what ones would grade the highest and I'll send those to NGC for grading. Hopefuly when they come back I'll then be shipping them to either DLRC, or Heritage. Speedy
Hi Speedy, You may want to clarify here. If I were a new coin collector reading this post, I'd see it's a moderator (supposedly respectable poster) who goes and buys four rolls of Franklins for under melt and will eventually send some of them off to Heritage for what we suppose are big bucks. I think a bit of explanation may be in order !! Or is it that easy to become rich?
Nope---as Doug said--it takes "luck" (A better word might be...research and knowledge in the type of coin) and ALOT of searching. I should have made it clear that out of those 22 only maybe 1-2 would come back with high enough grade to really pay. What I'm looking for is MS65FBL. Most of these wouldn't grade that high. Also---I didn't ask for these rolls to be marked down that much. I might have bought them even at his first asking price. He is the one that marked them down to below melt. I've looked at alot of 1962-D Half dollar rolls, and single coins, and only buy a small ammount of what I look at. Most of them do NOT have a good REV. strike...or have tons of bag marks, and not much luster. These rolls that I bought were the tops of what I've seen in sometime. Speedy
Well a few weeks ago I sent off 8 of the 1962-D half dollars I pulled from the rolls. Out of the 22 with a good chance at FBL's, these were by far the best. I just got an email from NGC that they are on their way back to me so I'm hoping for the best!! I'm quite sure that all of these will get FBL's...the question is to the grades. Some of them had more marks than others....but the luster was great on these babys. I'll let ya'll know how they come back! Speedy
