If you were in a modern time machine that would make you 20 or 21 again. And you had the spending power you have now. What one coin would you buy. My choice would be a 1912S V nickel. My late husband bought this coin for me in 72 and i can't find it. We lost him in Vietnam. The coin was just a regular coin. Nothing special. But i hope to god i find it.
I never gave two craps to the collectors value of a coin until my late thirty's, But just the same, I would say a Stella.
1907 High Relief Saint. And I could have bought one in the mid-1980's in MS condition for under $15,000.
I don't think I could stand the pain of going through my twenties again. Lol In the 70's I couldn't have cared less about coins, although I did buy some silver bullion and had a few Morgan's of which I knew nothing about. I certainly wish I would have put more effort into numismatics and began a collection in those years. I think I would have purchased gold if I had the money, I purchased my first house at 21 and those payments were hard to make.
I believe I would have gone for a nice and decently affordable semi-key date of low mintage like the 1921S Buffalo Nickel, in a nice higher grade.
If at 20 I earned what I do now... I'd probably buy exactly what I did then. I was happy with my collection then; I'm still happy with it.
Yes, MS grade. Look around. http://www.collectorscorner.com/Products/Item.aspx?id=45771346 https://www.parkavenumis.com/1907--20-high-relief-ms61-ngc-4882806014-1 http://www.collectorscorner.com/Products/Item.aspx?id=45296799 http://www.collectorscorner.com/Products/Item.aspx?id=45296798
I bought what I did based on my income and expenses from 40 plus years ago. To me, nothing has changed. The price of everything is higher so my higher earnings don't allow any extra. It's all the same to me.
