Clemson was in town for the National Championship against Alabama in 2017 and these were all around town. Distributed by fans to illustrate their economic impact on our community.
I ask tellers all the time if they'll accept a post-it note I write "$20" on if the marker says it's good. None have taken me up on it.
The Navy paid all of the sailors in San Diego in the late '60s with $2 bills after the public complained about having them there. People were asking where all the dueces were coming from - it was the only way they could prove the economic impact they made on the city. There were no more complaints after that.
The earliest report that I remember where a MickeyD's manager called the police about counterfeit $2 notes occurred in Baltimore. The Baltimore Police arrested the man and transported him to the station. The duty sergeant showed the "counterfeit" notes to the captain, and the Secret Service was eventually contacted. Upon arrival, the agents were shown the notes and promptly asked, "What's wrong with them?". Needless to say, the customer settled multiple lawsuits out of court. But, what was most surprising to me is the fact that Baltimore is home to the horse racing track at Pimlico where the second leg of the Triple Crown is staged, and the race track routinely pays out winners with $2 notes on a daily basis. ~ Chris
There not that popular, just an odd amount and since allot of people havent really seen allot of them, when they do come up, especially to young cashier she,s going to call foul every time.
Not really, though I had one story similar. I once bought a $1.08 can of soda or something, and paid with a $2. The guy assumed it was a $1, and asked if I had another $0.08 in change. I said no, and he said "that's fine, just make sure to bring enough next time" So I lost $0.92 that day
Ive had people think I was spending my parents Collections when I went into a gas station and payed with half dollars and the cashier told me to just take my drink free. I insisted and she refused until the manager told her to take it. Its a shame people dont know these are common money.
It’s nice to have other people voice my thoughts. It gets tiring getting into all sorts of trouble by voicing them myself.
I went to Vegas this past weekend. Some of the tables didn’t have $0.50 chips, and instead used half dollars for those denominations. Pretty neat, and the first time I’ve ever seen halves being actively used.
Since blackjack pays 3-2 (except the newer 6-5 scam) halves were nec. Also, they usually were used to tip the dealer.
I've got news for you! Most casinos in Vegas don't use 50c chips because it costs more than 50c to have them made. ~ Chris
It costs WAY more than $2 to get serviced around here, so I can imagine getting denied for $2 pretty easily...
A 1977A $10 note I had was declined after the cashier marked it up, and the counterfeit pen traces were yellow. She said it was "fake". So, strangely enough, you have certain cashiers who don't know how to use their own counterfeit-detection equipment. About $2 notes- I've never had them declined, but the cashiers did mark them up a couple of times. What happens most often is people offer to buy them for face value due to perceived "rarity".
That counterfeit pen is a farce. All it does is show that it's federal paper. Take a $5.00 bill sincevit has a thread and bleach it totally white. Then color copy a $100.00 onto it and guess what. It will pass the pen test. This is not my brainchild so please don't try it. It was done on the west coast years ago. Every bill passed the pen test but somehow the forgers were caught. The only real test is done with a black light. Each security thread fluoresces a different color.
Almost doesn't surprise me. Most cash registers I don't think even have designated sections for half dollars. Every time I'm at a grocery store when I'm getting cash back, if I ask for halves or $2's the guy or lady has to lift the actual cash tray to see if there's any under there.
Yeah I always check for the watermark and strap on 10s 20s and 50s. Had a 20 come into my work someone bleached a 1 dollar bills and reprinted it marker worked but no watermark or strap
