Picked it up raw this week. Opinions on grade? It's an easy to recognize VAM, but not necessarily from the obverse and reverse images. :smile

The obverse has some stains. Do you think it would slab at PCGS this way?

These are SCANS. I know it's not easy to grade from images, and it's usually worse from scans. Doesn't show the luster as well and emphasizes every hit. Just looking for opinions.

    Thanks!

I would say it is a high end 63.

It might benefit from a "dip" to get rid of the weird toning issue. But either way I think it would still be a 63.

There are quite a few scattered marks on Liberty's face, and couple larger marks one to the left of her mouth, and another above her brow.

I would say the reverse looks really nice, and if the obverse wasn't holding it back it could be a 65.

if it a scratch below the E then it will get body bagged otherwise a 64 on a good day

Nice MS coin. However it lacks eye appeal on the obverse. Personally I would find a better example to have graded, if I was into that kind of thing. Keep them raw and save your money for more coins, just my opinion.

I agree with the others 62-64 depending upon the grader.

Good Luck and Keep on Collecting!!!

You can get a 64 out of this one. The temptation to dip is high on this one, but I would resist! It's a nice looking coin as it stands.

    63. Nice coin. With a mintage of over 44 million, no need to slab that one. If you find one you're sure is a 65 and you paid 64 price for it then I would say PCGS or NGC it.

Thanks for the opinions. I was thinking MS64, but that obverse staining bothers me.

It's a Top 100 VAM with wide reeding. Latest VAM value guide has it at $250 in MS63, $500 in MS64, and $1500 in MS65. Not sure of the latest PCGS pops, but I think it was 2 in MS64 and 9 in MS64.

If it would make MS64, my goal would be to slab it, sell it, and buy more coins (or pay more bills :( )

Too many distracting marks in the prime fields on the obverse.
    I'm thinking MS-62 or maybe -63.
But I'm finding that I tend to undergrade.

A dip might do it some good, but otherwise its a nice solid 63

And that is the key. The coin would be body bagged for environmental damage - that is not toning, something liquid has been spilled on the coin. And left there the TPG's would body bag it. Removed prior to grading, it would grade MS63.

It looks like a bad dip to me and would get bagged as is.
Cleaned up, I would guess 63 as long as the luster can handle the clean up.

I think the obverse would hold it back from going any higher than 63. I don't know if they'd slab it or not.

I would say High MS 63, quite a few nicks on the reverse to keep it from a 64. the obverse is nice though.

    I'd say 63 maybe a 64 .

I thought it would. That's mostly dried spill residue of something on the obverse. I can't see PCGS leaving it there. It'll be interesting to see how this coin looks in the holder and the grade they give it after they "touch it up" so to speak.
