Pirate Gold and Silver. This is just random curiosity but beside dubloons and pieces of eight what other countries supplied pirates and what was their coinage called?

Also has anyone here ever found pirate (or maybe Viking) treasure? Did you submit it to the treasure act?

I'm not sure I understand the question...

I would assume just about EVERY country that hard any sort of trade by sea was hit by pirates and some time or another, but if you're asking what other types of coins were popular during the great Age of Sail in the Caribbean, that's another story.

The major super powers of the time were Spain, England, France, Holland, and a smattering of lesser powers. I guess any coin minted by these countries between 1600 and 1800 could quite readily be found in any pirate's sea chest.

As for FINDING pirate treasure... well, let's just say I'm following up a few leads... lol

Finds of hoards of Arabic dirhems in Scandanavia are fairly common. Thank you, Vikings.

 

The Barbary pirates were pretty active , probably European & North African coins .
