That doesn't look like a nick to me but I'm not sure what it is? As to getting it graded, the seller says it's already slabbed by a TPG but it isn't one ordained by Ebay so he can't say who it is. As to buying it for you, that's Spock's job! :D

What a nice coin , if another coin didn't make it , I'd say no they wouldn't grade it , but I'm just going by what I've been told . ANACS would and list the damage on the slab , hope I'm wrong , because other than that mark it's a very collectable coin .:smile:hatch::hammer:rzage

Did you ask the seller whose slab it's in ?

No I haven't. It's still very early in the auction and I'm sure it will be out of my price range by the time it sells. I just haven't seen any 3 cent silver that pretty and thought everyone here would appreciate seeing it also. It's a sweet coin. I'm just starting out and I'm not buying anything over $100 and I have a feeling this one will go for more than that. Alot more :)

Gotta love those 3cS coins !

The nick distracts, but I don't think it precludes a grade from a top tier.

The surfaces, however, probably do. It's hard to say from the photos, but the surfaces do not appear to be original. It's probably cleaned, if not downright polished. The surfaces appear unnaturally bright for a 150 year old business strike. I would ask him about that before bidding.

Dude offers a three-day return policy. Don't be shy about returning it if you feel it's cleaned.

I got an NNC coin:mad: when I started. It was cleaned, bent and overgraded. Would not advise and would rather test my skillz buying raw. Look at the area around the date/legend and the stars on the rev. Dimpled. Probably corroded then whizzed/polished. What's the saying. No problem coin is too cheap? Or something like that. Not really sure but don't buy someone elses problem.

Totally agree. I bought one (1) NNC slab long ago. 'Twas an education. Lesson one - never trust Brand X slabs. NNC = garbage.

If it's a good coin, why did they send it to a bunch of bottom-feeding charlatans like NNC ? To save $5 ?

    No.

They get it slabbed at NNC b/c they know it belongs in a body bag at any real TPG. In some cases, they're the ones who gave the coin "the business" (cleaning, whizzing) before sending it to their cousin Guido at NNC. :headbang:

Anyone who does not understand eBay's policy regarding coins graded by TPGs should read, reread and read the above post by 900fine again and again and again.

I had messaged the seller and informed them that while they cannot advertise the TPG the rules did not say they couldn't have a pic of the coin with the holder and showing the TPG's name on the holder. The seller thought that was against the rules and I told him that it's best to not have it as the main pic but to include it in the other pics. As a result, we now found out it was NNC and as 900F has informed us, NNC is a TPG to be weary of and in this case, it was good to know what TPG had slabbed it.

    Ribbit :)

    NOTE: This is strictly IMO.

    1. Based on the nick alone, any TPG would grade it.

    2. That nick would probably cost one grading point lower. It's prominent, but not quite in one of the prime areas.

    3. I would totally ignore the grade. NNC is not well regarded.

    4. I would totally ignore the coin. NNC is not well regarded AND do not indicate whether a coin has been "manipulated" or not.

There was not a picture of the slab when I put this up. I agree NNC is not accurate in any way, shape, or form. Still 4 days on auction, I may still bid on it if it stays under $100. I still think it's a pretty coin for a collector. I understand I will not get any return on investment but thats not why I collect. That said it will almost certainly go over my pricepoint.

There's a reason this coin is in a third tier holder -- it's damaged.

I'd value it roughly as an XF or AU coin.

I love the 3 cent silver series and I have a few in mint state.

I do have to agree with the comments by 900 Fine. I don't like the surfaces on this coin. I haven't seen any genuine, original 3 cents pieces with surfaces that look like the coin was minted yesterday. I would strongly suspect some kind of cleaning/polishing/overdipping is involved. If that's the case, it will get body-bagged by a respectable grading service.

I would be leery of any TPG that tires me out.

You'd better stick in a hefty bid if you think you're gonna take this jewel away from me?

$223.78 wow! I'll be watching this sellers feedback to see if buyer was happy or not.

I said I wouldn't bid over 100.00. I hope whoever won enjoys looking at it as much as I did :)
