Colorado residents, and others, on the forum might be interested in the final designs for our state quarter. I would have liked to have seen some native animals, and perhaps some waterfalls, but then, for some strange reason, nobody asked my opinion. The link is: http://www.colorado.gov/governor/press/march05/quarter.html Any opinions as to favorites?
Since I live in the Denver area, I voted on every site I could find that I could vote on....Centennial Colorado. In 2nd, I kind of like Colorful Colorado, but for some reason, I'm not thrilled with that ribbon-effect at the bottom. I guess I wouldn't care too much if it won either. The skier one totally sucks. It looks like he's about to take a dump. The Pikes Peak one is pretty dumb....boooorrrring. The Mesa Verde is nice but looks a little confusing and not quite so typical Colorado. Bruce
Well, Im not a Colorado resident at this time, BUT, being a tax payer, I do own 5 acres in San Luis Valley and hope to build a log cabin there in the very near future--AND retiring there is A DEFINITE option-- If not retiring, at least going to go to live there part time to go skiing, hunting, fishing, horsing and prospecting . I hope to find buried treasure out about that beautiful state!! & if Im lucky on my property!! As to the coin, they are all Colorado, very much superior to the Californy coin IMHO--From upper left to right, upper left being #1, I think I like coin #3--What that say? Pikes Peak or Bust??--#2 with the big "C" sucks, without the big "C" I like very much--Bottom left looks like an alien that died--(sorta like the "old man" mountain coin that fell off)-The skier is taking a dump, look closely--HAHAHA--#1 I like also, but it looks to busy and whats this Mesa Verde? Green Wha?? Anyways I'm sure the mint will ask my opinion before they creat it-- And what I tell them IS what will be pressed--
Any would be nicer then the "junk" our governor put on Michigan's!! Seeing as Fort Detroit was one of the oldest in the USA and other great things, We ended up with a "token" There are a couple nice designs for Colorado!!
Very nice designs for the state of Colorado. They all represent some part or phase of the state at one time or another. There is a lot of history behind the name of Centennial. I'm sure the governor with the help of the people of the state will pick a nice design. Here in Wyoming, we are having trouble coming up with any designs. How does a person show the wind blowing 60 mph. I guess we could have a log chain standing out streight, snapping links off of the end. It's going to be tough doing this state. Just think, a square figure with a chain. Nice, rigtht?
Well, OldDan, I can pretty much guarantee you that one or both of the following will be on your quarter: Devil's Tower and Yellowstone/Old Faithful. Maybe a rodeo shot, too?
I tried multiple times to use the link, but could not get it to work. Old Dan, at least you live in a real state. Us Ohioans only pretend to live in a real state and hope no one notices. We must have fooled someone though since they made a quarter for us!
I voted for the Mesa Verde Quarter..well it is in my back yard. It is recovering nicely from the recent fires and they have even discovred new, or unseen ruins since the fires. For those that want more info on it here is a link... http://www.mesa.verde.national-park.com/ 2006 just happens to also be the 100th anniversary of the park. Also the skier represents the 10th Mountain Division. They got their start in Colorado during WWII. I think the design could have been just a tad better IMHO Gary
Personally, I Like the Mesa Verde design but I think the image is to "busy" or cluttered and would blend together and become unrecognizable when reduced to quarter size. My vote went to the "colorful Colorado" which I think would reduce and keep its image quality the best of the 5 when reproduced on the quarter. Artistically, they are all very nice designs.
