Well I have several coins I found interesting in my collection after putting it back in order after maybe a decade. I found this site looking for information on the (fake) ducat Coin 1- I'm assuming it's a medallion for Queen Victoria's 60th jubilee in 1897, what interests me is the Australian coat of arms despite being pre Australia. Coin 2 - Just an 1878 Spanish 5 Centimos coin, I thought it cool Coin 3 - Just an 1853 English Penny, I thought it cool due to the youngish Queen Victoria bust Coin 4 - I know wasting your time but another one I just found interesting. A United States of Venezuala 5 centimos coin from 1896 Coin 5 - A Swiss coin. It's 10 something, 10 what? Anyone know. From 1850 Coin 6 - The infamous fake ducat, it weighed in at 3 grammes on the digital scales (don't have anything more exact yet as I found it tonight) Coin 7 - Now I can get NO information on this one, a coin with a hole and a wreath decorating around the whole on both sides. One side has Three Pence and the other Internment Camps. Any ideas? View attachment Coins.bmp Any information, even to just cure my curiosity would be appreciated. Edit: Hmm invert the numbers. Also sorry for the bad quality, like I said found them tonight and thought to get them up here (found the site whilst searching about the Ducat)
Try uploading the pictures directly to cointalk, that way we can open them to full size. As it is, they are miniscule (probably because of the way you posted them and not the actual image).
Australia was still Australia even then Would love to see some larger images, and you are not wasting our time, I have a small collection of South/Central American coins myself :kewl:
http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/AUSTRALIA-WWII-Internment-Camps-1943-Threepence-UNC_W0QQitemZ290238903924 Can't really make it out in your picture...but is this the unknown?
Aha and the questions are answered well at least the Internment Camp one, nowhere near as shiny but the detail is just as distinct. Ahh but it wasn't defined as a nation De Orc and wouldn't of had a unified coat of arms, so why does it 4 years before Federation? It's wierd. If anyone else is interested upon finding that the coin is Australian I found http://www.triton.vg/ict.html This. Second Edit: Found another small stash and within it there was something I can only think is a sovereign. Saint George and the Dragon with 1907 stamped on one side, King Edward on the other. Weighs about 3 grammes more than a 2 cent piece (same size copper coin) and is two centimetres across. After hearing of the ducat and considering the condition of this one, is it a likely forgery?
Another find I have no idea about. An 1823 medallion, the size of a half penny (around american quarter size) with some curly work between the coin and the hole for threading a ribbon. It has George IV on one side and St George and the Dragon on the other. Anyone know this?
