If you look at the "u" and the "s" in "TRUST" there is a connecting piece of metal. Also the "s" has an odd curve at the top. Is this anything irregular? Once again I am new to the error searching on coins so everything looks as an error to me. I do apologize if this is a pointless post.
When you find a coin with as much circulation damage as this one, you can be pretty sure that any oddity is the result of PMD. Chris
Welcome to Cointalk jeremy_elkins! If I didn't welcome you last month PMD - Post Mint Damage - Just like the other guys stated, Judging by the condition of the Cent it looks like it took a beating especially the area in question.
Jeremy, it is never pointless to ask questions like this, especially when you are first starting out. How else will you become knowledgeable numismatist. Even though, as the others have stated about the damage, it does look like a minor die crack. And welcome to Coin Talk.
Hello. I'm new here. I noticed the conversation here, and also have an odd looking 1951d wheat penny on reverse. There seem to be may be an error strike. I noticed the top of the"T" in UNITED, and most of the letters in STATE, especially the second "T" which curves looking like the number 7. Here are Pictures. Tell me what you think. Thanks. Joe.
Hello Joe.. welcome to Cointalk - Like the others and I stated, PMD - Post Mint Damage - Judging by the condition of your Cent it looks like it took a beating especially the area in question. Yes it does look like a number 7 but it is not. It's damaged. Metal was pushed to the side and it seems like it looks like a numeral. Also, Anytime you have a coin that you have a question about you should create your very own unique thread.
I found some pretty badly beatin wheat pennies coin roll hunting. Weird enough the 1951d pennies were the more beat up ones + this is going a little off topic with my coin roll hunting, but I went through a 100$ box of nickels and found two buffalo nickels in a row. Dates are unknown.
I found a 1951 Wheat Penny I think I found error .The L in Liberty is almost on rim and the letter I is flat it looks like theirs no I .It's hard to explain
It's either a worn die strike or a very well circulated Cent that affected the rim. And the I probably took a hit during circulation. It's a common occurrence. Nothing really major.
My first question on this site. I also just started going thru and looking at some of my old coins. I have this 1951 wheat penny that the "1" in date is only visible when you tilt coin and then it's or raisedat all, also the "L" in Liberty on front looks just like the "I"with a gap between them. On the reverse side the "ITE" in United is not raised and looks somewhat deformed. Any reply's will be apprieciated. I am also new to finding coin errors
I cleaned it with toothpaste and a soft toothbrush to be able to show issues on coin in a picture. Otherwise it was not so viewable. Should I have not cleaned it?
Its not a good idea if you want to eventually sell it. Collectors want them untouched/uncleaned or messed with. It seriously brings down the premium and in most cases completely eliminates any premium at all. Having said all that, I will get flamed by some for this, but its your coin to clean if you want to. A good rule is always leave it as is and find out if theres any value before doing anything with it. I will use a dry microfiber cloth and gently take loose surface crap off if there is any but even this will make some enthusiast boil.
Just damaged from being cleaned. This thread is from 2015 and again in 2018. You should have started a new thread but you should never clean a coin.
have you seen one where the 1 after the 5 is turned like this 195/ but part of the 1 is still straight like it as taken off the stamp to early. I came across one last night just wanted to see if anyone has seen or heard of this before
