I came across this very ugly 1967 penny and wanted all expertise thought on this. Do any of you have or seen anything similar to this. Is this a error coin or not. Please explain how these markings are made. I cant seem to explain cause there are different depths at different angles plus the edge of the coins also have markings. Please give an honest thought and would it be worth anything. It may be ugly but it sure is definitely unique and a piece of art.
Damage. Road rash. A penny will end up in a parking lot, and get run over thousands of times, and scrape against the ground, and end up looking like this.
How are the scrape so perfectly made at different angles with different depths. Honestly i tried to duplicate what you have stated and its nothing near this coin. Honestly take a closer look and you will see all the different markings on this penny.
Of course not but i tried stepping on a penny in the road and definitely wasnt heavy enough to make the marking on the edge or rims of the penny to look like that.
No one can say exactly how it was damaged but it is absolutely certain that it is damaged and not an error.
that penny got run over by cars, trucks and people.... next time your at a parking lot, slap your hand on the pavement a couple of dozen times then look at your palm, that'll give you a small idea of what your cent went thru...
Welcome to CT!! If you find loose change in a parking lot, especially if it was there for a little while, it will usually display similar damage. Time, material, parking lot conditions, weight of vehicles can all factor in on the look. I'm sure someone here has a cent that has been run over by a train; flat and elongated. Of course, you can do an inexpensive experiment by taking some cents (pre and post 1982) and scatter them in a parking lot and then return after a bit to collect what's left. You'll see a striking similarity. Damage becomes pretty easy to spot.
You posted this same cent back in 2018. Is this considered a long-Troll? https://www.cointalk.com/threads/rare-pennies.319358/
Just checking our credibility I hope. The Truth will only slap you in the face, until you believe it.
