Obscure ruler? How does a ruler who isn't known outside of a single coin issue fit? This piece is attributed to Sa'id bin Yahya who is not known from any historical sources but some believe he was the governor of the al-Shash region of Central Asia under the Abbasid Caliphate. This coin was previously unpublished before James Farr and Vladimir Natish wrote "An Unrecorded 'Abassid Fals of al-Shash, AH 149, in the name of al-Mahdi'" for JONS 168.
