Found this 1984 D nickel which appears to be a doubled die but was not sure because the extra metal that runs through date and igwt. Also you can see uneven edges on the rim. Help please. 0826170005b_HDR.jpg 0826170005c_HDR.jpg 0826170005d_HDR.jpg 0826170005e_HDR.jpg 0826170005a_HDR.jpg 0826170005j_HDR.jpg 0826170006_HDR.jpg 0825172359a_HDR.jpg 0825172359_HDR.jpg 0825172358b_HDR.jpg

Or 3 actually. It has the rim of 2 but none have that extra layer of metal almost like a huge cud or the doubling like the TY

Did not mean to reply with a 2 then ? It was 2? Stutter strikes are basically machine doubling from what I just read or maybe I misunderstood it. It said flat field doubling which is the same I think. This definitely doesn't seem flat to me. I'm still looking. Interesting coin either way

IV? I was looking through some of them and incuse machine doubling just happens to one side. Is this somewhat what happened here with the end of liberty and date doubling

Yes, IV! There is "Stutterstrike I, II, III.........but no IV. Therefore it is not a stutterstrike.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the collar collapsing ..

Hey Rick or anyone who doesnt mind can you look at thread I posted under what its worth. My buddy wants to trade me 40 silver commemoratuve Lincoln Mint coins called the History of the Civil War. All untouched and dead 1971. Trying to find a price range on what to charge so it's a fair trade for us both

You should start your own thread for your nickel. What you did is called "hijacking" another members thread. Since you're new to this site it's probably unintentional on your part so no one will get on you about it. You will get more replies if you start your own thread. To answer your question, IMO it looks like the obverse was struck by a slightly misaligned die.

No worries here. I think I may have been guilty of hijacking once or twice when I first joined as well. Good luck with your coins. Welcome to a bipolar hobby. One minute your excited thinking you hit the jackpot then the next you have the wonderful members of the cointalk forum crushing your dreams. :) jk. You will definitely get all the help and accurate information you need on this site for the most part. Good luck.
