Eisenhower proofs — not good for much, but they sure are purdy....

That's one of the nicer 1916 Ds I've seen for the grade. Has good color and a nice clear date and mintmark, much more eye appeal than some;) Nice pick up!

Usually when I'm searching pennies in bank rolls I find wheat pennies like these...

    IMG_20200122_220641032.jpg

But today I found these memorial pennies

    IMG_20200122_221138.jpg

    That look like new,

And these wheat pennies that look like new

1915-S Saint-Gaudens MS63: A recent purchase from FUN. It's my first use of lower-graded Saints as a subsitute for bullion. Coin has some black gunk/particulates on the reverse, not sure exactly what they are.

After I bought this, I saw a 64+CAC (I think 1907 or 1908 No Motto) for like $120 more so I might look for something like that next time.

Getting numismatic value and history with the Saints is a small price to pay relative to a pure bullion coin or even a specialty bullion coin like a Proof, Reverse Proof, DCAM/UCAM, etc.

That actually looks like many collections from the early 60s during the coin collecting boom. The 60 on the right is a small date. It was one of the first varieties I ever looked for.

It looks like 2 of the three 60s are small dates.

2015 American Eagle Proof: Never had one, and I love the blackish color in the fields. Another FUN purchase, as it turned out by waiting months to buy it at FUN instead of getting it from my LCS I paid a few more $$$....oh well.

I sometimes wonder if all the differentiating items on today's coins -- proof, UCAM, PF 70, Edmund Moy, etc. -- are all going to see their differentiating premiums fade away much as the value in proof sets for the 1970's anbd 1980's pretty much did.

But that's a story for another day. And besides, I still have 1 ounce of gold and I like the coin. :D

This just arrived from a dealer who specializes in Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents. He thinks it was cleaned, as he listed it as 1881 1C Indian Head Cent UNC RD(Cleaned) K8685. I was doubtful based on his photos, so I got it anyway.

Opinions? (The difference between my price and MS65 RD is about 10x, so I will be hard to disappoint.)

I don't see hairlines from a cleaning, but the color is strangely even and the luster is a little "off." PCGS and NGC would probably call it Questionable Color or Recolored.

Ron, I love the flashing-tilting aspect of your pics...are those GIFs ? Not sure how to do it but some CT'ers will be shooting some pics of my coins in the future so maybe I'll ask them to do some of those, too.

Seems to show luster/shine more than straight-on photos.:D

BTW, ever been to FUN ?
The Penny Lady and others have a Flying Eagle session and are big sellers of Indian Head cents.

CBD, what makes you say that the luster is a bit "off" ? Not doubting you, just trying to learn.

If I'm being hypercritical the 6 o clock under the bow on the reverse has a little patch where there is no change in luster as the coin moves. As well as between the A and the head dress on the obverse. Maybe like they used a toothpick to get grime off before dipping it.

    Again that's me being hypercritical.

So the pennies keep on coming. These were I every bank roll I opened today, just like yesterday. I even bought out the last 6 rolls from the same box (haven't opened them yet, probably this weekend).
