Going to go through this collection to try to help establish value. I am sure dealers see stacks like this on a regular basis. I will likely see something like this a few times in my life. Needless to say, I was excited when he handed over the stack. If you see anything I should pay close attention to as far as rarity please let me know. I know I am going to buy some of it from him, for example - all of the red seal two's - that 1928D is sweet, I'd say at least a 63! The part I know I am going to struggle with in terms of value are the two groups of consecutive notes from the 60's. 1963A $1 - 43 Consecutive (with the exception of the top and bottom notes they are crisp like new notes. 1969D $1 - 22 again top and bottom notes show handling while everything in-between is crisp like new. Any advice here is much needed! My US Paper Money Book and eBay are going to be a great source of information for me this week! Thanks and enjoy the view! Unfortunately the bottom two $50s will probably head to the bank as I don't think they hold much collectible value. The 1934B might be worth saving but the 350 in pencil and partial strap stamp doesn't help it's cause. Love all of these red seals even though the later dates are common There are a group of these in the middle that are consecutive - unfortunately I believe they are all common. Here are the consecutive $1's
Just for you Hawaiicurrencycollector - This is the only other note from the group - even in this condition this is headed for my safe. Worth saving just because.
Just curious...when you have a large number of ungraded notes...and it's time to sell them...are there enough paper dealers that would pay reasonably close to FMV (less a discount, of course) because they have large-discount grading costs at the TPGs and can be reasonably confident that the grading costs will be recouped in higher values ? Or does it pay to DIY ?
Either way will work - bulk to a dealer would be the quickest but might get the least amount for it. DIY - takes time, has some risks, and also may involve auction fees. I think in this case with the exception of the consecutive $1's, enough of the better notes can find homes DIY for a fair value. The newer star notes will mostly be worth face unless they come from a small run. The older star notes may have some added value that can again be gained by DIY. The rest can/will likely go in bulk. JMO
Could use several of the older FRN stars myself. If these find their way to Ebay eventually, please do let us all know!
It's a nice little collection. I would ask your friend what he wants for all of it. I don't see a great deal of value here.
if they were in my possession i could not bring myself to take any of those older notes to the bank for fear of them being destroyed....
