I like it. I have no idea on the grading part. But I like that style - I hate "blast-white". When I see a coin that is decades old and is "blast white", I want to find out what space ship it came from. Nice honest coin. Now I suppose everyone is going to say it's been harshly cleaned!!! However, I don't think it's MS. The left hand and skirt has wear areas as well as the eagle's breast....
Since there seems to be slight wear on the stripes of the flag on the left leg I'd say it can't be a MS coin. However there is little to detract from being a really nice AU 55 coin. Bruce
I'm going to say AU-50 to -53. I see what appears wear on the eagle's breast and on liberty's lower left leg. And it appears to have lost most of its Mint shine.
I tend to be conservative when it comes to grading. Especially when it comes to coins I don’t grade frequently. From the picture, the flat spot on the left leg keeps me from saying AU. Even XF would be a stretch so I’m going with VF. I would be willing to go XF if you can see clear evidence of the skirt lines at a different angle or different light. (MHO)
If it's not too much trouble, could those of you that said MS please explain why you think it is? It shows wear so I'm just curious. Weak stike? Always trying to expand my knowledge.
Yes the coin shows a weak strike, but no wear that I can detect. I can only assume that the areas where you think you see wear are the in the left hand and the left leg of the eagle, maybe some on the breast. But those are exactly the areas to show a weak strike as well.
It actually does have alot more "mint shine" than the pics show. I'm still working on my photography.
No major hits in primary areas , nice coin , luster & weak strike hold it back from a 65 I'd say MS-64 . rzage
Walkers are notorious for weak strikes , eagles leg , Miss Libertys' arm & leg , most assume this is wear , if you tilt the coin watching the color if it stays the same it's not wear , if it looks duller it's wear , this coin looks like it's a weak strike not wear . rzage
