This is a coin I got from the flea market for 20 cents today. I know its a 1988 Mexican coin minted in Mexico City. I'm pretty sure the domination is 500 Pesos but I'm finding it that hard to believe because if it is, then just the exchange rate alone on it would be 49 Dollars. Anyone got any more info on it?

Nevermind I did a little research on my own and found out that its an "old peso" which is worth 1/1000th of what the new ones are worth so mine is worth a whole nickel.
    Lol how disappointing.

True. I went through the same discovery a few months ago with the same kind of coin.

Speaking of inflation, I once lived with a bunch of other medical students and professionals and some were internationals from Mexico. This was around 1989.

They gave me a 1000 peso 1988 coin from Mexico. At that time I asked them what could 1000 peso buy them back home. They told me they could get a hot dog with it.

    Wild isn't it. :smile
