I picked up this Morgan for 17$ but I new it was damaged and been cleaned. He wanted $25. But I started to look at where the rim was been pushed and it looks to have been from a slab. I lined it up with another Morgan. What do you guys think? Damaged from a slab?
Interesting. Looks like slab damage. But how? Could of been part of some jewelry that held it in a similar way? Or maybe like a metal belt buckle piece?
I don't think a plastic slab would displace the silver like that. It was probably mounted in a belt buckle or piece of jewelry, the position of the damage is just coincidental.
Slabs don't damage coins. But jewelry mounts do. And, it is very likely that a jewelry mount would be in the same four spots.
I am in agreement with Physics and Paddy. The TPG’s role is protecting our coins. If the slabs were damaging our coins there would have been a firestorm long before now. That would have been a jewelry mounting of some sort..... Either way, nice pick up for seventeen bucks.
Aaahhhh I bet you guys are right on the belt thing. Looks like there was glue on the reverse at some point.
